Finding places here in Tulsa that are new and unique isn’t always the easiest thing to do. And everyone’s taste is different. In order to really get to know Tulsa, you have to experience it.

Oakhart Barbeque

This unassuming corner spot oak smokes some of the best barbeque Tulsa has to offer. Brisket, sausage, pulled pork, and ribs that fall off the bone. All served with white bread and a pickle. Come for the meat and stay for the sides. Baked beans, potato salad and a mac and cheese that hit the hearty, warm, nostalgic feel that comes with eating at a true barbeque joint. And what you aren’t tasting, you’re seeing. Large wooden tables sprawled out to seat your family and friends. A communal gathering place for a shared love of smoked meats. The quality and the atmosphere are A+ and totally worthy of your time.

Savoy

Savoy may not be a secret to longtime Tulsans, but if you’re newer to the city or just haven’t had the chance to go yet, it’s time to change your plans. The family behind Savoy has been serving Tulsa since 1918, and this breakfast and lunch staple can be easily missed as you drive down Sheridan. Nestled under a bright blue canopy is the best breakfast skillet I have ever had. Try one of their housemade biscuits or a side of their cinnamon raisin toast. The menu is long, and there are no wrong choices. Arrive ready to eat, and leave feeling ready to take on the day.

Lanna Thai

Millenials will have flashbacks to a 1990’s Ponderosa, where flat tabs of butter with dinner rolls and soft serve ice cream machines were king, but the level 3 spice on your beef and broccoli will knock you right back to reality. The food at Lanna Thai is easily some of the best in town, and the uniqueness of the space just helps it stand alone in your mind. Go once and it will be on your list for good.

Common Tart

Tucked behind St John’s is one of Tulsa’s best kept secrets. Common Tart is making some of the best from scratch pies in town. Super fresh, small batched, and so good for gift giving, Common Tart has thought of and mastered every aspect of their craft, down to how they package a single slice to go. From the Key Lime pie to their Oatmeal Cream, every bite is the perfect bite.

Good Cause Brewing

It’s no secret that Tulsa’s brewery scene is thriving, with new spots seemingly popping up every day. Many brewery outings are often paired with downtown nightlife or the 6th Street area, where it’s easy to hop between American Solera, Cabin Boys Brewery, Marshall Brewing, and Nothing’s Left Brewery. Good Cause Brewing feels like it appeared out of nowhere, tucked next to the Reasor’s at 15th and Lewis. This brewery crafts impressive brews that rival some of the most popular spots in town. The space is cozy and inviting, and trivia nights are known to get competitive. For anyone looking for a brewery experience off the beaten path, this one is well worth a visit.

India Palace

Food has always been a common way to step into another culture, if only for an hour. India Palace takes this a step further by making sure your experience celebrates not only the food, but the atmosphere you might expect from a family gathering in India. Everything from the decor to the service captures a kind of warmth you can only get from a place like this. If you’re new to Indian food, their tikka masala with rice and some delicious naan is a great place to start.
